Steffes: Where Internships Become Careers
At Steffes, we welcome interns in the summer and co-op students throughout the summer, fall, and winter semesters to help fulfill their college program requirements. These opportunities provide students with valuable real-world experience while allowing us to connect with and develop future talent.
We take pride in giving our interns the opportunity to see all sides of the business. What does that mean? It means providing a front row seat to how our business operates, allowing them to experience our culture firsthand, and giving them a supportive environment where they can learn, ask questions, and grow.
We strive to foster a workplace where students can become more than just interns. Many of our full-time employees started their journey at Steffes as interns. Some have been with the company for just a few years, while others have built long-term careers here.
Steffes doesn’t limit what interns can experience. We encourage them to explore different areas of the business and bring fresh perspectives that help us become more lean, efficient, and innovative. Their ideas and insights often contribute to improvements in our processes and the development of new products.
Wyatt Kainz, a design engineer at Steffes, shares his journey that he began as an intern. “The experience I gained from working with different departments and teams really helped me during my time as a manufacturing engineering intern,” Wyatt said. “It gave me a better understanding of the entire process, how you go from developing designs and drawings to actually turning them into physical parts.”
Those experiences continue to benefit him in his current role. “That knowledge has helped me as a design engineer understand what we’re actually able to build and what we’re capable of accomplishing,” he explained.
Wyatt’s internship experience gave him the opportunity to see projects through from start to finish, allowing him to gain a deeper understanding of how work is done at Steffes. Experiences like this help interns see the full scope of the process and what a career at Steffes looks like. It also allows them to envision their future with the company if they decide to pursue a full-time role after graduation.
Even after the internship ends, we aim to stay connected. Some interns return for multiple internships or continue contributing to projects during college breaks. Maintaining that connection helps keep their curiosity alive while strengthening their relationship with Steffes throughout their college careers.
