From Learning the Ropes to Leading the Way: Celebrating Ray Hurt’s 24 Years at Steffes

Ray spoke highly of the culture at Steffes—one of the key reasons he’s remained part of the team for the past 24 years. “The culture here feels like one big extended family,” he shares. “I genuinely enjoy coming to work each morning, greeting each employee individually and asking how they’re doing.” He added, “When you look forward to going to work, you know it’s going to be a good day.”
He also emphasized how much Steffes’ focus on work-life balance has meant to him over the years. “When my kids were younger and still in school, I was able to be home when they got off the bus—that meant a lot to me.” Now, with his children grown and four grandchildren keeping him busy, Ray says that balance is just as meaningful: “These days, it’s my grandkids who make the work-life balance so important.”
When asked what he would say to someone considering a job at Steffes, Ray shared, “This kind of business makes a mark in a community. I always tell anyone thinking about applying that if they want a company where they can build a future, this is the place to be. The employees here take pride in what they do, always working hard for themselves and the company.”
As he reflected on his favorite part of the last 24 years at Steffes, Ray shared that while there have been many fond memories, one stands out above the rest—his relationship with Business Owner Paul Steffes. “He’s truly one of a kind,” Ray said. “That’s something I’m really going to miss. No matter how busy he was, he always made time to stop and chat for a few minutes. You know his mind is always going 100 miles per hour, but I could count on him to take a moment and talk. That’s the kind of relationship we built over the years.”
We couldn’t be more grateful to Ray for his dedication to Steffes. It’s been a remarkable journey, and we thank you, Ray, for 24 wonderful years! Congratulations on your retirement!
